"Off the beaten
track"
Konni van Delft (1956) was trained
in Germany. She subsequently moved
her sphere of activities to the
Netherlands from where she now
travels the world as a freelance
designer. It all started during her
training to be a flower arranger in
Germany. This was followed by
various courses in Grünberg on
subjects such as bouquets, wedding
flowers and sales techniques. Her
first steps up the professional
ladder were taken as the manager of
a florist shop in Germany. The
Netherlands came later. After
gaining experience in florist shops
she moved on to purchasing for a
floricultural supplies wholesaler in
the Netherlands. This was followed
by an international position in the
field of buying and selling
Christmas articles and decorations.
Rich sources
Since 1987 she has been
self-employed as a retail and floral
designer. She speaks German and
English and has specialised in
demonstrations, presentation
techniques, concept development and
training courses, both in the field
of trend and style groups and
motivation training. Her main
clients are florist shops,
supermarkets and garden centres. She
draws inspiration for her work from
three rich sources: "Music, films
and fashion."
Globetrotter
Konni is a real globetrotter and can
pride herself on an impressive
amount of international experience.
Her 'region' includes the
Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia,
England, Ireland, Eastern and
Southern Europe, South Africa,
Brazil, Taiwan and China. One of her
most unusual commissions in recent
years took her a long way from home.
"It was a show in South Africa and
was exceptional because of the
special location and the challenge
of creating a corner of Holland in
such a far and exotic country."
Seasonal
Her favourite flowers and plants are
seasonal, i.e. tulips in spring,
Chrysanthemums in autumn and
sunflowers in summer. People are
sometimes surprised to hear that she
likes to get off the beaten track,
travelling off-road in her Toyota
Landcruiser. "Sometimes I view an
impassable road as a challenge; both
privately, in my car as well as
professionally with flowers and
plants."
